Applying the Science of Reading with Intensive Phonics Instruction

This workshop will provide a basic overview of the science of reading and structured literacy from a practical perspective. Participants will leave with an understanding of the following concepts:
- research-based frameworks for understanding the processes involved in reading,
- the essential elements and teaching principles of structured literacy, and
- strategies to more effectively teach foundational literacy skills across grade levels.
A large portion of the workshop will feature hands-on and dynamic training dedicated to teaching phonological awareness and explicit phonics.
